Our Story

I am a math professor at a community college in the Chicago area. I have a doctorate in education with a focus on math education, a master’s degree in pure (theoretical) mathematics, and bachelor’s degrees in both mathematics and economics.

I began my academic journey at a community college, where I also tutored math classes and developed a passion for teaching. I decided that was all I ever wanted to do, and after 15 years I am still wildly passionate about it.

My goal in creating this website was a “one-stop shop” where students could find all the support they need for their math classes. Support means different things to different people, which is why there are so many different kinds of video here. Somehow, after a great many hours, that has grown into more than 1,000 videos spanning different subjects and different levels of support. I have this idea that with the right support and a little motivation, students can achieve anything. I am hoping to be a small part of that.

As time has gone on, I have heard from people who found the site useful. When I decided it was time to give it a proper upgrade, my computer-science-engineering-type husband agreed to help. We wanted it to work for any book, any kind of class, whatever the situation, for students and teachers alike. This version is our best attempt at that, and we are always looking to improve it.

We have bigger plans for Divide and Conquer Math too, which we hope to share in due time.

I don’t only do videos. I am also the latest senior author for the 3rd edition of the OpenStax statistics text. I love content creation of every kind, and I believe high quality resources should be free to everyone. My goal with that book was an easy-to-read, high quality resource for high school and college students, with a genuinely useful Excel component to the course. There are plenty of resources here to help if you are using the OpenStax text.

I consider myself a lifelong learner. A few things I have picked up in the last decade: how to bake three-tier wedding cakes, how to crochet my own wedding dress, how to speak a couple of foreign languages, and how to drift the rear tire of a motorcycle through a turn (on dirt). I never stop learning. I am a diehard Nine Inch Nails fan, and a Trent Reznor fan in general. (Trent Reznor: if you ever read this, I’ve been trying to get some How to Destroy Angels swag, hook a girl up!) When I’m not working (rare), I like hanging out with my husband. We are into motorcycles, travel, our dog, and other shenanigans.
